WOFM (Working Out From Home)

Having no motivation and constantly getting distracted because your WFH (working from home) schedule is a drag? Me too. In comes WOFM (working out from home). A little dancing and a pushup here and there is bound to keep you distracted and hopefully make time go a little faster.
I tend to go through phases with working out. Sometimes I’ll find myself in a routine of exercising every day and other periods I’m lucky if I get a workout in for the week. With the lockdown slowing life down and offering more down time, I no longer have the excuse to not workout.
Week one I was doing my own workouts - a run here or there, and a random ab workout, but that got old quick. Each day from then on I researched different personal trainers that were offering free IG Live workouts and tried them out. Each workout is only about 30 minutes, so depending on the day, I sometimes add more for myself. Once I found which ones I liked, it was easier to workout on my own or follow a few specific accounts.
Below I’ve comprised a list of my top five favorite workouts.
1. Melissa Wood Health:
I kept seeing people I follow posting that they just finished a MWH flow and how amazing they felt post-workout. I decided to check out her instagram and do a bit of stalking to figure her out. Her workouts encompasses a plethora of lifestyle changes that are nothing like the usual torture of extreme exercise and dieting. Her programs offer a mix of yoga, and pilates all using your own body weight. She even throws in a dance warmup every once in a while! Not to mention, she remains vulnerable with her audience - talking about topics like weight loss trouble, acne, bloating and feeling uneasy. Her app/website not only offers workout videos but also eating habits and recipes. You can sign up for a seven day trial or pay $10 a month to access the workouts (in my opinion, totally worth it). Each video ranges from about 10 minutes to 40, and offers numerous touch points like arms, abs, or even prenatal/postnatal yoga.

2. Train with Danny
Train with Danny is my absolute favorite quick sweat workout. Each IG Live is only 30 minutes and goes by so fast. I found out about the LA based personal trainer through some of the influencers I follow like Aimee Song and Camila Coelho. The workouts are effective, and typically focus on one part of the body ranging from arms, abs, butt and thighs. TWD has a pattern to each Live starting with a two to three move warm up, and then about two circuits with three exercises repeated twice. The no rest period and mix of cardio keeps your heart racing the whole time and bound to leave you red and drenched in sweat (awesome, I know). Danny’s workouts are mainly based at his gym however he posts regular at home workouts on his instagram.

3. Amanda Kloots
I found Amanda Kloots through a IG live with Aimee Song. Her workouts are almost a mix of MWH and TWD - a little bit of cardio and a little bit of bodyweight strength training. Her exercises are always filled with loud music, energy, and lots of jump roping. Her signature workout is her ‘Dancer Arms Series’ which are about 5 minutes of waving your arms in tiny circles front and back. It seems easy, but trust me, one minute in and you won’t be able to feel your arms. You can find her workouts through her instagram or pay for a package of videos (ranging from $19.95 to about 54.95). Definitely worth the price as Amanda is super positive and smiles the whole way through.

4. Brittney Stracener
Brittney Stracener is a personal trainer at the Barry’s Gym location in Dallas Texas. I found her through a live IG workout partnered with the brand revolve. Her workouts are insane. I started with a thirty minute arm workout and can confidently say I wasn’t prepared to do that many pushups (being that my PR is between 1 ½ at the moment). With that being said, the workouts fly by and before you know it the thirty minutes is over. While working out with her at the gym in person would be the most beneficial, she offers at home workouts through her personal instagram and partnerships with other brands.

5. Revolve
Since the lockdown, the clothing brand Revolve has partnered up with a variety of influencers, personal trainers and fitness experts to create 30 minute at home workouts. The workouts are posted weekly and are typically scheduled once a day Monday through Friday. The brand saves all of their workouts on their instagram feed so even if you miss the time, you can always go back. Some of my favorite collaborations they’ve done are with @Katrinascott, @carmellarose, @valegenta, @helenowen and @yoventura. Each workout focuses on a different muscle group and because they’re taught by various instructors, they’re not boring! If I’m being honest, not all of the videos feel like effective workouts (some are easier than others), however a majority of them are. Not to mention - they’re 100% free. Only con: all the instructors are dressed head to toe in Revolve activewear making it near impossible to not shop immediately after.
